What is Secondwave?
Secondwave is madebyplasma's circular production and community support program. It redirects suitable imperfect blanks, surplus apparel and unused merchandise into new products, community projects and events.
Are Secondwave garments second-hand?
Not necessarily. Many products are new and unworn but have minor imperfections, come from discontinued ranges or form part of surplus inventory. If a pre-owned garment is used, this will be clearly disclosed.
What kinds of imperfections should I expect?
Products may have minor marks, colour variations, stitching irregularities, previous labelling or other cosmetic differences. We will describe or photograph relevant imperfections on the product page.
Are the products still wearable?
Yes. Every accepted garment is assessed for its intended use. We do not knowingly sell or distribute garments with faults that make them unsafe or unsuitable to wear.
Will every product look identical?
No. Availability depends on the garments recovered, so colours, sizing, print placement and finishes may vary. These differences are part of the Secondwave product.
Where do the garments come from?
Garments may come from madebyplasma's workshop, apparel suppliers, business partners, samples, cancelled orders, excess stock or previous merchandise programs.
Is Secondwave a recycling program?
Secondwave primarily focuses on reuse, reworking and redirection. We aim to retain the garment in its existing form wherever possible before considering material recycling.
Can my organisation apply for free merchandise?
Eligible organisations can apply for support, but free garments or production are not guaranteed. Assistance depends on the project, available stock, workshop capacity and the level of community benefit.
Do we get to choose the garment, colour and sizes?
We will consider your requirements, but Secondwave relies on available products. Exact styles, colours and complete size ranges may not always be available.
Can Secondwave help us create fundraising merchandise?
Yes. We may assist with garments, production or a collaborative merchandise release when the fundraising purpose and beneficiary are clearly explained.
Can commercial businesses apply?
Commercial businesses may apply when the proposed project delivers a genuine community or environmental benefit. Projects designed primarily for commercial promotion will generally not qualify for donated support.
Can we sell garments supplied through the program?
Only when this has been approved as part of the application. Applicants must explain how revenue will be used and may be required to report the final fundraising outcome.
Can I donate old clothing?
Secondwave is not currently a general public clothing collection service. Contact us before delivering anything so we can determine whether the garments are suitable.
Can brands provide surplus or imperfect stock?
Yes. We welcome discussions with suppliers and businesses holding usable samples, discontinued garments, cancelled inventory or products with minor cosmetic faults.
What happens to products that cannot be used?
Products unsuitable for wear or embellishment will not enter the Secondwave program. Where practical, we will identify an appropriate textile recovery pathway, but acceptance or recycling cannot be guaranteed.
How long does application assessment take?
Allow approximately 10 working days for an initial response. Complex projects and large garment requests may require additional assessment.
How will successful projects be selected?
We consider community benefit, genuine need, intended use, timing, available resources and the project's alignment with Secondwave principles.
